River Wye, Four Circles
Gesso and acrylic on 300 lb cotton paper, 76cm x 56cm. Framed
The low, hazy sun on an Autumn afternoon created this motif of 4 circles. As I squinted at the sun the branches of the tree appeared to curve into a halo. These 2 circles were reflected in the river.
I love Wallace Stevens’ poem “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird”
IX
When the blackbird flew out of sight
It marked the edge
Of one of many circles.
I’m often on the lookout for these circle edges.
