Longyearbreen, Svalbard

Gesso and acrylic on 300lb cotton paper.

56cm X 76cm

We were returning to Longyearbyen on a snowmobile trip.  The weather was closing in as we summited the Longyear glacier.   It had been a rather too exciting drive up the glacier and I was so relieved to see the twinkling lights of the town below.   This painting is about this feeling of relief and the inhospitality of our hard won location.
